Time Warp: The Bad Sleep Well 1960

I first saw The Bad Sleep Well in my Source Shakespeare class because of its allusions to Hamlet. It is stunning and the disjointed mashup of such a known story is fascinatingly unsettling, yet fitting, within the film noir aesthetic. One of my favorite style choices are the glasses many of the characters wear. To see such emotions behind eyes that are behind glass fits well with Kurosawa’s manipulation of the notion of how we process stories through the lens of film.
